A biographical history of Frank Hughes’ professional employment experience includes both private and public sector leadership positions. His private sector experience includes four years as the Vice President of Corporate Security for Steward Health Care, a national health care organization.

Prior, public service employment includes thirty-one years of service with the Massachusetts State Police.  Retiring in 2017, at the rank of Lt. Colonel / Deputy Superintendent serving as the agencies chief operating officer. Most of his career was spent within the departments Division of Investigative Services.  His investigative experience includes participation in the investigations following the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. He was also assigned for over 15 years in the departments’ Gang Unit. Professional development courses include attendance at the 218th FBI National Academy, the 58th DEA Drug Unit Commanders Academy both held in in Quantico, VA. He also attended Harvard University’s National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI) in Cambridge, MA as well as the Department of Homeland Security, Naval Post Graduate School- Executive Leadership Program (ELP), in Monterey, CA.  He holds Bachelor’s degree from Curry College and a Master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in Criminal Justice.

He is also a recipient of the Massachusetts State Police Medal of Honor and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Trooper George L . Hanna Award for bravery. He also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1982 to 1989.
